Shihan Gaby Dojo (“the dojo”, “we”) is a free, privately funded Kyokushin karate dojo located at 3085 Boulevard Lévesque Ouest, Laval, Québec H7V 1B4. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in accordance with Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and applicable Canadian law. This policy explains what we collect through shihangabydojo.com, why, and what your rights are.
Person in charge of personal information

What we collect
Admission application form. When you apply, we collect the information you enter: full name, email, phone number, date of birth, home address, how you heard about us, your answers about motivation and expectations, prior martial arts experience (style, years, rank), preferred training days and, for applicants under 18, the name, phone number and email of a parent or guardian.
Contacting us. If you call, text or message us, we keep the information you choose to share so we can answer you.
Technical data. Like most websites, our host records basic technical information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and to keep the site running.
Why we use it
- To review your application, contact you and schedule an interview.
- To manage training, attendance, the probation period and safety at the dojo.
- To reach a parent or guardian for students under 18.
- To understand how visitors find the dojo and to promote the dojo (see “Cookies and tracking” below).
We only use your information for these purposes, or for another purpose if you consent or if the law allows it. We never sell or rent personal information, and we never ask for payment information: training is free.
Minors
The dojo accepts students aged 12 and older. For applicants under 14, the application must be completed or authorized by a parent or legal guardian, as required by Québec law. For all applicants under 18, we collect a parent or guardian’s contact information.
Cookies and tracking
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies, including the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which helps us measure visits and show information about the dojo on Facebook and Instagram. Meta may receive information such as the pages you visit and your browser’s identifier. Our site also loads fonts from Google. Tracking cookies, including the Meta Pixel, are only activated if you click “Accept” in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with the “Update consent” button at the bottom of the page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can manage ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account.
Who can see your information
Your information is accessible only to Shihan Gaby and, when needed, the dojo’s instructors. It may be processed by service providers we use to operate the website and receive form submissions (web hosting, email). Some of these providers may store data outside Québec; when that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information remains adequately protected.
How long we keep it
We keep application information for as long as needed to process your application and, if you are accepted, for as long as you train at the dojo. Information about applications that are not accepted, and about former students, is deleted or anonymized when it is no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information against loss, theft and unauthorized access. If an incident involving your personal information presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify you and the Commission d’accès à l’information as required by law.
Your rights
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, withdraw your consent, or ask that it be deleted or no longer disseminated, subject to legal limits. To make a request, contact Shihan Gaby using the information above. We will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
